Sydney Thunder might want to appoint a brand new captain after Callum Ferguson confirmed he had been let go by the Big Bash League membership.

Ferguson changed Shane Watson as skipper of the Thunder in 2019 after the star allrounder introduced his BBL retirement.

Ferguson, who retired from first-class cricket earlier this season, made it clear after the Thunder’s loss to Brisbane Warmth in an elimination closing that he was eager to stay skipper.

However the South Australian revealed on Saturday through social media that he had been launched.

“Sadly I used to be notified yesterday that I cannot be supplied a contract,“ the 36-year-old posted on Instagram.

“I’ve cherished each minute on & off the sphere with this taking part in group, the final 4 years have been an incredible experience! I’m now wanting ahead to what my taking part in future holds within the bbl.”

Ferguson thanked former Thunder bosses Mike Hussey, Lee Germon and Nick Cummins plus present coach Shane Bond, including that the followers’ assist had been “instrumental in serving to us to consecutive finals runs”.

Ferguson flagged final week that he was eager to attempt his luck on the worldwide T20 circuit this yr.
